The mandala, “circle” in Sanskrit, is one of the most ancient and universal symbols, ranging from petroglyphs and sand paintings to mass-produced coloring books.  Their circular design and symmetry represent wholeness, unity, and harmony.  But more than that, mandalas can heighten personal awareness, deepen meditation, foster creativity and relieve stress.

The first class will explore the history and symbolism of mandalas as revealed in nature and reflected in cave drawings, religious rituals, healing ceremonies, and psychological practices.

During the second class participants will make their own mandalas.  We will supply all materials and an annotated bibliography.  We will offer guidance as you experience first how mandala-making taps inner sources of strength, relieves stress, and cultivates new perspectives.  The second class will provide guidance and materials to create your own personal mandalas.

Please join us for two stimulating afternoons getting to know mandalas and what they can tell you about yourself.

October 22 and 29 from 1-3 at the United Methodist Church.
