Award winning journalist, author and Cal Poly journalism instructor Katya Cengel will lead us through her process of using early childhood trauma to develop a voice. Cengel’s stay in a psychosomatic hospital ward as a 10-year-old led her to search for stories about others who had been overlooked and a journalism career that has taken her around the world. In addition to sharing her inspiring writing journey, Cengel will provide concrete steps on how to craft a memoir and negotiate the tricky parts when it comes to family.
